This research examines the aspect of seeking pleasure in the cities of the Safavid era through the lyrical travelogue "Muhit al-Kawnayn" by Salik Qazvini. It shows how the poet recounted his daily life and personal experiences in poetry by combining tradition and poetic innovation. Focusing on Salik's travelogue, which considers the city as the main place to express his experiences and feelings, this article aims to illustrate the urban experience and the complexity of the poet's emotions towards urban places.
In this study, the two concepts of Ishrat or Siahat (pleasure) and Ziarat (pilgrimage) are examined among Salik's urban experiences, and his poetic narrative is reread around these concepts. Through this reading, we demonstrate that the city does not necessarily have a single definition; part of that definition is formed in the complexity of human feelings and subjectivity. Salik narrates his journey both as a pilgrim and as an observer. He recounts both the experience of pilgrimage and the experience of pleasure, without considering these two to be in conflict. Additionally, this study emphasizes the importance of literary and poetic sources from the Safavid era, especially travelogues in verse, for understanding urban experiences and narratives.
