One of the controversial topics in literature history books is the formation and consolidation of the school of Literary Return. A school that, according to many experts, kept the evolution of Persian poetry away from its natural course for a while; The attachment of the Qajar kings to the court customs of the Samanid and Ghaznavid governments, the peace of the Iranian society during the Zand period and after, the disenchantment with the Indian style and the effort to free poetry from decadence, etc. are the reasons for the formation and consolidation of this literary school provided by researchers. The authors of this article believe that this issue can be viewed from another perspective (Michel Foucault's discourse theory) and explained in another way. According to them, if we accept that the Return period is a part of the pre-modern discourse, then we must accept that history (as one of the discourse forms of the pre-modern discourse) lacks the concept of progress and its movement will be periodic and remote; Because the discursive form of history in this discourse is opposite to the modern discourse which has a linear and forward path. In such a discourse and form of discourse, the principle is to return to the origin; It means exactly what the poets of the Return period did by referring to the poets of the Iraqi period (in ghazal) and Khorasan period (in the qasida).
