abstract History and literature have never been separated from each other. The aim of this research is to establish the identity of Bahram the fifth based on historical evidence, and then discuss his character in literature. This research tries to show how poets like Ferdowsi in The Shahnameh , and Nizami in Haftpeikar have stressed the historical reality of Bahram the fifth, and both poets, using myths and legends tried to make his character more attractive. The aim of this research is to make a distinction between the character of Bahranm the fifth as depicted by Ferdowsi and Nizami and his real historical identity.
