Investigating the development process of Kawus personality from ancient times to Shahnameh

Abstract

Kawus is one of the most famous Iranian kings who has the largest and longest presence in the national epic of Iran among the kings of the Shahnameh. Many of the famous stories and battles of the Shahnameh take place during his reign or after his reign and during his lifetime; Stories such as the story of Rostam and Sohrab, Siavash, and battles such as the Battle of Mazandaran, Hamavaran, and the great battle between Kay Khosrow and Afrasiab are among the most important of these stories and battles. Also, in Avesta, Pahlavi texts and Persian and Arabic texts after Islam, this king and his works have been mentioned. Although in the Avesta, Kawus is called a wise and powerful ruler who rules over all countries and people; there is no clear history for him in this book (Shahnameh). The main features of the face of this famous person appear in Pahlavi texts and Persian and Arabic texts after Islam. In this article, the course of Kawus's character in the existing texts from the Avesta to the Shahnameh and the deeds of this famous king, such as the ascension, the battle of Mazandaran and Hamavaran, etc., have been examined.
